BMW Announces 2026 GS Trophy Destination: Romania
BMW Motorrad has officially confirmed the location for the next International GS Trophy, and this time it’s heading deep into the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. Scheduled for late summer 2026, the tenth edition of the GS Trophy will bring competitors from around the world to a rugged European landscape packed with off-road potential.
Known for its steep climbs, rocky forest trails, and fast-flowing rivers, Romania marks a return to the mountains after recent sand- and steppe-heavy editions. The event will once again fuse cultural immersion with technical riding challenges in a unique mix that defines the GS Trophy spirit.
At the heart of the action will be BMW’s new R 12 G/S, a classic enduro machine inspired by the legendary R 80 G/S and built to handle both tarmac and terrain. It will serve as the official GS Trophy competition bike for 2026, giving riders the chance to push its limits across forest paths, gravel climbs, and deep valleys.
The GS Trophy goes beyond racing, focusing on endurance, riding skill, navigation, teamwork, and camaraderie. Competitors will face a mix of off-road stages, GPS navigation, and technical challenges over several days, camping together and living the full adventure experience.
To join the action, riders must first qualify. BMW Motorrad has announced eight national qualifiers and one international qualifier, with events taking place in:
- Australia
- China
- Germany
- India
- Japan
- South Korea
- Ukraine
- Plus an international qualifying round at the BMW Motorrad Enduro Park in October 2025
From these events, 15 teams will be selected: 9 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, with riders earning a once-in-a-lifetime chance to represent their country in Romania.
Beyond the competition, BMW will offer “Follow the Trails” tours after the event, where customers can experience the exact GS Trophy routes on the same motorcycles used in the challenge.
🌍 From Tunisia to Mongolia, from Canada to New Zealand, the GS Trophy has taken riders across the globe. In 2026, Romania will write the next chapter, with tight switchbacks, remote mountain trails, and a new generation of GS bikes leading the way.
