Erzberg and Romaniacs Bolt from FIM Hard Enduro Series in 2025
The two biggest names in extreme enduro, Red Bull Erzbergrodeo and Red Bull Romaniacs, are pulling their events from the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship calendar for 2025. Instead, the iconic races will run independently, each crowning their own world champions.
This move follows uncertainty surrounding the FIM series after its initial cancellation and subsequent revival with a new promoter. Organizers Karl Katoch (Erzberg) and Martin Freinademetz (Romaniacs) issued a joint statement citing a lack of detailed information from the new promoter as the primary reason for their decision.
“Neither Red Bull Erzbergrodeo nor Red Bull Romaniacs will be part of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship calendar in 2025,” their statement read. “Rather, both events will stick to their decision to award their own world championship titles.”
Erzberg will award the title of “Extreme Enduro World Champion,” while Romaniacs will crown the “Extreme Enduro Rallye World Champion.”
Katoch and Freinademetz emphasized the need for more clarity and agreements to participate in an international series. They stressed that a world championship should foster the sport’s sustainable growth, including supporting event implementation and ensuring athlete access.
While wishing the FIM series and its new promoters well, the focus for 2025 remains on their individual events. They believe awarding independent world titles at Erzberg and Romaniacs will further promote extreme enduro and elevate the athletes who tackle these brutal courses.
This split shakes up the top tier of hard enduro competition for next season, putting two of the sport’s absolute benchmark events outside the official FIM structure. Riders aiming for a world title in 2025 will now potentially chase multiple crowns.
