2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally
Built for the Long Way Around and the Hard Way Through
“There are motorcycles designed to reach the end of the road. Then there are motorcycles built for the moment the road disappears completely.”
The 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally belongs to the second category. It is not simply an adventure motorcycle with off-road intentions. It is a machine shaped by rally thinking, by long days in the dirt, by fast open terrain, and by the kind of technical sections where confidence matters more than comfort alone.
Standing on the pegs, the bike’s purpose becomes clear. The wider rally footpegs give the rider a strong platform, the tall stance opens visibility over broken ground, and the 21-inch front wheel sets the tone before the trail even becomes difficult. This is a motorcycle that asks to be ridden actively.
With KTM Factory Racing-inspired Red Bull graphics, an off-road rally seat, carbon fiber tank guards, and a titanium Akrapovič slip-on silencer, the 890 Adventure R Rally looks and feels closer to the competition side of KTM’s DNA than to the softer end of the travel-adventure world.
This is a purpose-built rally-adventure machine designed for riders who want serious suspension, real off-road geometry, and long-distance usability in a single package.
The Engine: Power You Can Actually Use
At the center of the 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally is an 889 cc parallel-twin, 4-stroke DOHC engine with electronic fuel injection, dual balancer shafts, and a PASC power-assisted slipper clutch. It is a configuration that gives the bike the kind of engine character adventure riders need: strong, responsive, and manageable across changing terrain.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission and Bosch engine management with ride-by-wire, allowing the motorcycle to adapt through its electronic riding modes while keeping the mechanical feel direct and purposeful. In a rally-focused machine, power is only useful when the rider can control it, and that is where the 890 platform makes sense.
The PASC slipper clutch adds another layer of control, particularly when entering loose or technical sections where rear-wheel stability matters. It helps smooth aggressive downshifts and keeps the bike more composed when the terrain becomes unpredictable.
The Akrapovič “Slip-on” titanium silencer completes the engine’s personality. Beyond giving the bike its rally sound and feel, it delivers a 35% weight savings, reinforcing the idea that every component on this Rally version has been selected with performance in mind.
Chassis & Suspension: Confidence Over Any Terrain
The 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally is built around a CroMoly tubular steel frame, using the engine as a stressed member. The subframe is also CroMoly steel trellis, creating a structure designed for strength, control, and the repeated punishment of off-road riding.
But the heart of this motorcycle’s off-road capability is the suspension. Up front, the Rally version uses a WP XPLOR PRO 7548 fork with 48 mm tubes and cone valve technology. At the rear, it uses a WP XPLOR PRO 6746 monoshock with KTM’s Progressive Damping System (PDS). Suspension travel is a serious 270 mm front and rear, giving the bike the ability to absorb impacts, maintain composure, and carry speed through rough terrain.
This is not a cosmetic off-road package. The suspension alone makes the Rally version feel like a machine designed for riders who understand what happens when the trail stops being smooth.
The 21 x 2.15-inch front and 18 x 4.00-inch rear spoked DID wheels continue that message. They are fitted with MITAS tires, sized 90/90-21 at the front and 150/70-18 at the rear. The setup is classic rally-adventure geometry: a tall front wheel for rolling over obstacles, a strong rear for traction, and enough tire profile to handle demanding terrain.
Braking is handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 260 mm rear disc. The numbers matter, but what matters more is the balance between stopping power and control. On a bike with this much suspension travel, ground clearance, and off-road focus, braking must remain predictable as grip constantly changes.
With 303 mm of ground clearance, a 26.2º steering head angle, and a wheelbase of 1,535 ± 15 mm, the chassis is clearly built around stability and off-road capability. This is a motorcycle designed to move through terrain, not tiptoe around it.
Advanced Electronics
The 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally includes the standard TECH PACK, which provides access to Motor Slip Regulation, Quickshifter+, and Rally Mode. These features sit alongside Street, Offroad, and Rain ride modes, allowing the bike to adjust its behavior depending on surface, pace, and rider intention.
The most important part is Rally Mode. On a motorcycle like this, electronics should not soften the experience too much. They should give the rider tools. Rally Mode does exactly that by supporting more aggressive off-road riding while keeping the bike configurable and responsive.
Quickshifter+ is another practical addition. On long off-road sections, reducing unnecessary clutch use helps maintain rhythm, especially when riding standing up or carrying momentum through uneven terrain. Motor Slip Regulation also plays an important role in managing rear-wheel behavior when traction is limited.
KTMconnect adds smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth, including TURN-BY-TURN+ navigation. For riders covering distance, this matters. A rally-focused adventure bike still needs to work as a travel machine, and navigation support becomes a real advantage when the day includes both remote dirt sections and highway transfers.
Cruise Control is also standard, giving the rider’s hands a break before the next off-road section. That detail says a lot about the motorcycle’s dual personality: aggressive when the terrain demands it, but still capable of covering long distances between the difficult parts.
Ergonomics & Usability
The 890 Adventure R Rally is tall, focused, and serious. With a 910 mm seat height and 270 mm of suspension travel, it is clearly built for riders comfortable with a full-size off-road adventure motorcycle.
The aluminum tapered handlebar, measuring 26/22 mm, gives the cockpit a strong, purposeful feel. Combined with the wider rally footpegs, the riding position is clearly designed around standing control. When the terrain gets rough, the rider needs room to move, pressure through the pegs, and enough leverage at the bars to guide the bike with precision.
The off-road rally seat reinforces the bike’s mission. It supports the kind of riding where body position changes constantly. Whether shifting weight forward in loose climbs or moving back over rough sections, the layout is made for active riding.
The fuel tank capacity is 20 liters (5.3 gallons), giving the bike the range needed for long adventure days. With an approximate weight of 200 kg without fuel, the Rally version remains a serious machine, but one built with high-spec components and weight-conscious upgrades like the titanium Akrapovič silencer.
Protection details also matter. The carbon fiber tank guards, aluminum master cylinder guard, engine protection grille, and Supersprox Stealth rear sprocket give the bike a more complete, ready-for-abuse feel. These are not decorative elements; they are the kinds of parts that make sense when the ride becomes remote, rocky, and unpredictable.

Design: Function First, Always
The 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally does not hide what it is. The Red Bull graphics, rally seat, carbon fiber tank guards, high suspension stance, spoked wheels, and Akrapovič silencer all point in the same direction. This motorcycle is designed to look fast because it has been built to be ridden hard.
There is nothing soft or decorative about its identity. The design is aggressive because the underlying hardware is aggressive. The tall suspension, high ground clearance, rally footpegs, protection pieces, and serious wheel setup all serve the same purpose: giving the rider more control when the surface becomes difficult.
It is not the easiest version of an adventure motorcycle, and that is exactly the point. The Rally is for riders who want more suspension, more ground clearance, more protection, and a more direct connection to KTM’s off-road world.
For long transfers, it offers cruise control, navigation connectivity, and a 20-liter tank. For the dirt, it brings WP XPLOR PRO suspension, rally ergonomics, serious wheels, and electronics designed to support, not dilute, the ride.
The more demanding the terrain becomes, the more sense the 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally makes. It is a motorcycle built not only to travel far, but to keep going when the route turns rough, remote, and uncertain.
