Pirelli Unveils SCORPION Trail III: A Fusion of Sport and Adventure
High Performance on Asphalt, Capability on Dirt
Pirelli has launched the SCORPION Trail III, its most sport-oriented adventure tire to date, designed for riders who demand exceptional on-road performance without sacrificing off-road capability. Engineered for modern adventure and crossover motorcycles, this latest evolution in the SCORPION lineup delivers outstanding grip, stability, and handling while ensuring low road noise and wet-weather performance comparable to a sport-touring tire.
The SCORPION name is synonymous with off-road excellence, with Pirelli dominating the Enduro and Motocross World Championships for over four decades, securing 81 world titles. However, the SCORPION Trail III prioritizes asphalt performance, making it a street enduro tire built primarily for road use but still capable of tackling light off-road conditions.
Key Features and Innovations
The SCORPION Trail III introduces several upgrades over its predecessor, improving stability, cornering precision, and wet-weather traction. Key improvements include:
- Enhanced Tread Pattern – Inspired by Pirelli’s DIABLO sport tire range, the FLASH-style central grooves improve wet drainage and stability on soft terrain while optimizing wear patterns. A refined land/sea ratio increases rubber contact with the road for superior grip.
- Advanced Compounds – Radial sizes use a 100% silica-based compound for excellent grip in wet and dry conditions. The dual-compound rear tires feature a softer shoulder compound for increased cornering grip and a harder center section for durability and mileage.
- Optimized Construction – Front tires benefit from supersport-derived structures for improved handling and feedback, while 0-degree steel belt technology in radial rear tires ensures high-speed stability and load-bearing capacity.
- Sport-Touring Profiles – Pirelli has implemented a multi-radius profile, borrowed from its sport-touring experience, delivering progressive lean behavior, high-speed stability, and long-lasting performance.
Performance Across All Conditions
On asphalt, the SCORPION Trail III delivers sharp handling, high-speed stability, and top-tier wet performance, making it an ideal choice for riders who primarily stick to paved roads but want adventure-bike versatility.
On dirt roads, the alternating central and transverse grooves improve traction and control, giving riders the confidence to venture off the beaten path when necessary.
Additionally, Pirelli has significantly reduced road noise, ensuring greater comfort for long-distance touring.
Availability and Sizing
The SCORPION Trail III is now available in select sizes, with the full range rolling out throughout 2024. Some key sizes—120/70-19 front and 170/60-17 rear—will be introduced in the second half of the year.
