Held Lonborg Jacket & Pant Set
Adventure riding is rarely about staying on course. It’s about adapting, reacting, and embracing every twist, both on the map and under the tires. The same could be said of your gear. On a recent two-week ride across the alpine heart of Europe—through Austria, Slovenia, and Italy, with everything from gravel climbs to greasy tarmac—we field-tested Held’s Lonborg Jacket and Pant set. And not on showroom loops either: we rode a BMW R 1300 GS from mountain passes to muddy trails, through wind, rain, sun, and the organized madness of Erzbergrodeo. The result? This gear didn’t just keep up, it led the ride.
Right out of the bag, the Lonborg Jacket feels like it’s made for serious travel. Built from TACTEL 3-layer laminate (750D), it delivers a reassuring blend of abrasion resistance and weatherproofing without the usual bulk of armored touring jackets. Waterproofing is integrated directly into the shell, eliminating the need for zip-out liners or last-minute rain covers. On this trip, we rode through hours of rain and misty mountain drizzle, and the jacket never once gave up ground. Even better, it didn’t absorb water and turn into a wet blanket. It stayed light, breathable, and wearable, exactly what you want when your day doesn’t end at the first gas stop.
Of course, no gear test is complete without the wear-and-tear verdict. After hundreds of kilometers through grit, water crossings, alpine sleet, and trail dust (plus a few mild “oops” moments on wet rock), the Lonborg set still looked nearly new. No popped seams, no busted zippers, no warped panels—just a little well-earned patina.
Here’s what it all comes down to:
- All-weather protection via durable, breathable 3L TACTEL laminate with no fussy liners
- CE-certified armor with smart placement and optional upgrades for full-coverage confidence
- Comfortable fit with stretch zones, armor adjustment, and extensive size options
- Rider-first features, from venting to braces loops to armor coordination between jacket and pants
- Proven durability, withstanding two solid weeks of real-world adventure without issue
The Held Lonborg Jacket and Pant aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. They’re trying to get you to the end of the trail dry, protected, and comfortable enough to enjoy the next one. Whether you’re crossing borders or threading through alpine fog, this is the kind of kit that doesn’t just come along for the ride. It helps you finish it.
Paired with it, the Lonborg Pant holds the same construction and philosophy. Equally waterproof, equally rugged, and styled to match without shouting. Both pieces feature 3D mesh panels at the back and smartly placed zippered vents that help regulate temperature on the go. While we didn’t hit desert highs, ventilation worked well across moderate conditions. That said, we’d appreciate a bit more airflow in the lower sleeves of the jacket for hotter days, but for three-season use across shifting weather, the system performs well.
One of the standout elements of the set is its balance between comfort and protection. The jacket comes with CE-certified EN 1621-1:2012 armor at the shoulders and elbows, while the pants handle knees and hips with thoughtful placement. Held’s HPA (Held Protector Adjustment) system on the pants lets you fine-tune knee armor position, which came in handy as terrain and rider posture shifted. For added safety, there’s room in the jacket for optional back and chest protectors, and the integration with the Held airbag system was seamless. That’s a rare achievement, considering how temperamental some protective setups can be when layered.
And speaking of fit, Held doesn’t just offer a token range of sizes. The Lonborg set is available in standard, stocky, slim, and women’s-specific cuts, with sizing from S to 5XL in men’s and D-S to D-3XL in women’s. Pants are also offered in tailored formats like K-L or L-XL. This matters more than specs suggest. On long days in the saddle (over 12 hours daily in our case), gear that fits properly is the difference between riding with focus and riding with fidgeting. The Lonborg set felt like a second skin when zipped down and buttoned up, with stretch panels in the right places to keep things flexible through technical sections or trail-side photo ops.
There are small but meaningful details that elevate the experience too. Multiple interior and exterior pockets make it easy to access essentials. The suspenders-ready buttons on the pants (compatible with Held’s optional braces) help prevent sag during long, rough rides. And the styling? Clean, muted, and sharp. The color options—black, anthracite, and grey—keep things classy without looking like motocross cosplay.
